Knit Two Purl Two Winner
Thanks, everybody, so much for sending such a mountain of entries! I had so much fun going through them and am absolutely amazed and delighted by how many different takes exist when writers are given simply “knit two, purl two” and “Tennessee” as a jumping off point. There were entries that ranged from super macabre and dark to hysterically funny and light-hearted and everything in between.
Nonetheless, I had to choose the winner and I have decided to go with Caz Adam’s sneaky, twist-ending scene, Cold Mission.
Congratulations, Caz, you’ll be receiving your gift certificate shortly and we’ll set up a time to chat on Skype!
Let me know, Effers, whether you’d prefer to vote yourselves or for me to pick the winner. I can also post the runners up if you wish. Whatever is the most fun and inspiring for you is what I’m all about.

Hey Caz, congrats. That’s cool.
An excellent story and a deserved winner. Well done Caz!
I like the winner, but I would enjoy seeing the runners up posted as well: it’s always informative and entertaining to see the different angles people take!
I agree with you, Renee! It’s less fun! But I don’t like how the voting is essentially a popularity contest. Next time, I’ll post all of the top three but name the winner myself and then we’ll see how THAT works. But you’re right, the best part is seeing the different takes!
I also like reading the various wacky ideas people come up with. And why limit yourself to the top three? Choose the winner yourself, and post the winner plus any Honourable Mentions, or perhaps the winner and a few by genre — here’s a Horror take, or a Romantic Comedy, or a Drama etc.
I am very happy that Caz Adams is the winner. I would have also picked her to be the winner a couple of contests ago. You have to admire her consistent skill level which she seems to be able to summon at will. I love Caz’s mixture of the deadly mission of two snipers intermingled with the mundane skill of knitting and the trivial conversation of the lady sniper’s concern for the other sniper’s health as she plans to use the most docile of hobbies to murder him. This is a supreme example of a reversal, and of the surprise/suspense weapon in the screenwriter’s arsenal. I learned from it.
I would prefer Julie to choose all the winners. The rest of us can only hope to arrive at a fraction of her knowledge and expertise, someday! I would prefer her to choose the 2nd & 3rd winner as well. What would the Olympics be without the silver and bronze medals?
Thanks to my fellow screenwriters who kindly posted a congrats.
It is greatly appreciated and makes me realize that spending the last 20 years learning how to write is starting to have some pay off for me.
The idea of a winner in each genre is great but as this is a ‘free’ contest and Julie spends so much time anyway, I feel that is asking too much of her time.
I know other contests do that, but you have to pay to enter.
I too would like to see Julie choose the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners so that we can learn what someone of her calibre and professional experience is basing their judgements on.
Plus seeing the variety of scenes and styles is fun and makes us all see other possibilities. Earlier finalists’ scenes certainly made me think differently this time around.
